Waney edge of board

  • Begin at the bottom, make sure the first board is level and the waney-edge is facing down. Use a 20mm strip behind the bottom edge of first board, for support.

  • Overlap the boards by 50 – 65mm. Waney=edge boards are cut from green timber and will shrink as the board dries, so don’t reduce the overlap.

  • Fix the board with 1 nail, either end of the board. This nail should be secured 10mm above the top edge of the previous board. This is sufficient, and if you use more nails than this the board may split when shrinking.

  • End joining of the boards should occur on top of a batten and should be staggered, so that the board join in different places throughout the cladding.
